Julie Buck served as our postpartum doula. I was very pleased with the services rendered. Julie is specially gifted for this kind of work. She brought a special joy and optimism into our home each time she came, which is exactly what a new mama needs at this very special and equally tender time. She was a wealth of information. She gave us so many good ideas on baby care, toddler care, home care and care of our families overall well-being. She brought slings and wraps and nursing pillows, recipe books, parenting books, all kinds of goodies for us to try. With every question I asked, Julie exceeded my expectations in providing the needed information!!! My daughter, who is fast approaching three years old, LOVED Julie. I have been resistant to allowing others to care for my precious daughter, as we are on a specific track and have strong opinions on how children should be treated. It was nice to have someone who is so fun and respectful toward children helping us out with her. Julie showered her with attention and play, for which I could not be more grateful!!! I do feel this extra attention has helped to fill my daughter's cup in a way that has helped to foster a positive relationship and feeling toward her new baby brother. I felt like Julie was there to assist me in whatever way I needed. She really took the edge off and has made this such a beautiful transition! She is the type of doula that would fit in with any family, with the ability to easily and readily adapt her style to meet their unique needs. She is an exceptional listener, providing good, solid, caring counsel, as well as the ability to remain quiet if counsel would be inappropriate. She has the gift of humor and brought many good laughs. I felt comfortable sharing whatever I needed to in order to be able to move positively forward on this special mothering journey. She very much affirmed my parenting style and me as a mother. I did not use a doula for my first daughter, and would not consider doing it without one in the future. -Anonymous
Julie Buck is an amazing young woman. She came into our home and without judgment, gave us very useful advice regarding utilizing our space and, in particular, our children's abundance of toys. Her extensive knowledge of the Montessori philosophy really helped encourage a constructive area for our children to play and live. -Amy and Chris Lloyd,
Julie's home consultation visit proved to be quite beneficial to our family. She provided a lot of great ideas and resources to help us get our girls (two and three years old) rooms and lives more organized and child friendly. Julie is great to work with and our girls love her! -Kellie Mills,
Thank you for coming to my house and helping me fix my home to accommodate my very active four and two year olds. Dinner time, nap time, cleaning up their toys.... going room to room and addressing the details of our routine was extremely helpful. Standing in the rooms, your experienced eye could brainstorm immediate solutions with usually very simple suggestions. Child-proofing a cabinet, simplifying our playroom, using a timer to get us out of the door in the morning- all small, simple steps- but it was the small details that were ultimately derailing us into chaos. Standing with you and going room to room made me realize that. What was required was not a complete overhaul as I had suspected. I just needed a few minutes to figure out what the problems actually were and your visit facilitated that. Once the problems were defined, you found simple solutions which help keep our family on track. Thank you so very much! -Mother of two,
I had struggled with how to bring some of the great elements of Montessori that my daughter Ella is exposed to at school into our home. Julie came into our house and went through each room in our house with us. She gave us suggestions for how we could arrange things so that Ella could be as independent as possible. She even sent us a detailed report afterwards with all of the things we'd discussed and a list of resources for finding furniture, supplies and developmental toys. I've seen a significant difference in Ella since we made the changes – she participates in the kitchen with cooking and cleaning, her toileting is smoother, and she seems more comfortable in her bedroom. We couldn't have done it without the help of Julie! -Michelin Sharp,
Maia spends most of her time at home, so we feel it is important that her playing and living environment not only give her enough things to do, but also challenges her learning and creativity at an appropriate level, helping her develop new skills and confidence. So we asked Julie Buck to guide us, based on her training and skills in child development. During her visit, we gave Julie a tour around our home, highlighting areas where Maia spends the most time. Julie described to us different kinds of toys/activities (e.g. for creativity, organizing, problem-solving), so that we could make sure we had opportunities available in all the areas. She suggested we rotate the materials available, to keep things new and interesting. Julie looked at the furniture and its arrangement, and made suggestions on where we could get more child-friendly tables and bookshelves. She also gave suggestions on daily activities, like how to involve Maia more in cooking and setting the table or how to use the restroom by herself. She was also able to suggest new activities that Maia would enjoy, many of which did not require going out and buying more stuff. As we are expecting a new baby soon, Julie made valuable suggestions on how to organize play areas (separate and together) for both the children. Julie is also a labor doula, so we discussed assistance she could give in that area. As a result of her visit, we pay closer attention to what toys/materials are out, rotate toys and rearrange her play areas periodically. She can now access her own clothes and dishes, in an effort to encourage her independence. We also try to have more patience as she learns to dress herself, use the potty, and help us in the kitchen. -Aida Kapur
Julie was of paramount importance in us achieving our goal of a non-medicated birth. She was always happy to provide support outside of the prenatal visits, which was incredibly helpful. I was super nervous, and she recommended many techniques in advance to alleviate my fears. Her calm energy and nurturing spirit enabled me to stay focused and relaxed. She was such an important part of our team. She helped my husband remain composed during some very stressful and scary moments, as well. That alone was worth its weight in gold. Additionally, Julie's postpartum visit was helpful for us in processing our birth and understanding everything that happened. Not only is Julie a true professional with a wealth of knowledge and expertise, but she's also genuine, warm-hearted, and loving. I'm so grateful for her support and care. After working with Julie, I know it would have been impossible to have a non-medicated birth. We'll definitely hire Julie again when we're ready for baby #2. -Anonymous |
